I have become increasingly interested in the notion of 'islandness' and the unique experience of islanders, but more specifically of islanders living on islands with small populations. As someone who is very content with being alone and drawn to quiet and peaceful places, I find island life fascinating. There is a dual experience that seems to be almost contradictory — one of isolation and insolation, independence and interdependence, separation and community. This interest has taken me to a small island off the west coast of Ireland, where I have begun making work about the experience.
